Neelakkurinji will adorn the Hills of Munnar this Year

Soon the violet blooms of the legendary Neelakurinji will adorn the hills of Munnar in Idukki district. This once in a 12-year wonder attracts a multitude of travelers from across the globe. Kerala Tourism expects a footfall of over 800,000 travelers this season. Neelakurinji blooms in all its glory during July to October 2018. However, scientists expressed a concern whether this will get delayed due to rain. The travelers can also spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr in the area where the flower blooms. Anamudi Peak and Eravikulam are the major tourist attractions nearby. Kerala Tourism is taking efforts to better the infrastructure facilities available considering the expected increase in tourist arrivals. “As many as 628,427 tourists had visited Munnar in 2017 with an increase of 34.31 percent as compared to 467,881 vacationers in 2016. Kerala Tourism is expecting a growth of 79 percent in tourist arrivals to Munnar this year” said Mr. P. Bala Kiran IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism.


IPL Model Boat Race to be Conducted in Kerala

With the support of Kerala Tourism, an IPL (Indian Premier League) model Boat Race League will be conducted in Kerala this year. The boat race titled Kerala Boat Race League (KBRL) will be held from 11th August to 1st November 2018. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be considered as the qualifier match. 12 matches will be conducted and 9 best snake boat performers from the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be selected. Punnamada, Pulinkunnu, Kainakari, Karuvatta, Mavelikkara, Kayamkulam, Piravom, Poothotta, Kottappuram, Thazhathangadi, Kalalda, and Kollam are the venues for the race. All the teams qualifying for the league will be awarded a bonus of Rs. 4 lakh for each venue. The first three winners of each league match will be given Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh. The ultimate winners of KBRL will be awarded Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
